May is the perfect time to jump-start your life by getting active! With the warmer weather rolling in, its a good time to get out and move.
Outdoor sports are in full swing and intramural teams will be looking for teammates, so it's a good time to join one! From kid's sports to Water Aerobics for Seniors, there are many ways to stay active, no matter what stage of life you're in.

The Health Department recommends that everyone gets 30 minutes of exercise every day.

Only 1 in 3 children and less than 5% of adults get the recommended 30 minutes of exercise every day. This greatly effects a person's health and can lead to health issues such as blood clots and obesity. A short run, a fitness class, or a team practice or game could really benefit your health and your life.

Data from 2009-2010 indicates that over 78 million U.S. adults and about 12.5 million (16.9%) children and adolescents are obese.
Being obese causes a person to be more likely to have a heart attack, diabetes, and an overall limited life. Simply walking for 30 minutes every day can drastically reduce your chances of becoming obese, and if you are obese it can help you improve your health and lose the weight.

Getting up and being active, even if you have to start slow at first, can improve your lifestyle. If you can't walk long distances, play with your kids, or enjoy events without feeling out of breath it's time for a lifestyle chance. The more you move, the more active you will be able to be. So get up and get moving! Stay active through all stages of life so that you can live longer, healthier, and happier.
