Finally, for the first time since the pandemic, New Jersey districts will be permitted to allow students and teachers to stop wearing masks.
The mask mandate in schools has been in place since schools began reopening in September 2020. It remained even after Gov. Phil Murphy lifted mask requirements inside businesses last May. It stayed despite angry parents repeatedly pressing the governor to end it.
This past Monday, February 7, Murphy announced New Jersey would remove its requirement for masks inside schools and day care facilities starting March 7.
“This is a huge step back to normalcy for our kids,” Murphy said.
