Thankfully, there are several things we can do to combat these symptoms of seasonal affective disorder.

Here are some tips to help you keep a brighter mood during winter blues:

1. Get Lots of Sunlight Everyday: The main cause of winter depression is the lack of sunlight, when you’re cooped up indoors during the cold months, you’re not getting enough direct sunlight exposure, even if it’s cold, make sure to go outside.

2. Stay Healthy: Working out even in the winter will improve your mood. Aim to get some form of exercise 3-4 days a week. This will help with winter weight gain and the endorphins can help stave off depression. Try to avoid food that make your feel sluggish, stock up on fruits and vegetables.

3. Socialize: Even though the cold days make it temping to hibernate, socializing with other is good for your mental health and wellbeing. Even if you don’t feel in the mood to go out, force yourself to socialize because it will lift your mood.
