Practicing Gratitude
If negativity rules your life, try to practice a gratitude routine every day.

Detecting a negativity cycle can be difficult in its early stages. Most people aren’t aware of how negative thoughts are impacting their life until they experience symptoms of stress, which range from rashes to
anxiety to depression.

Practicing gratitude can significantly improve your quality of life. Some benefits of gratitude include: reduced risk of heart disease, decreased anxiety and depression, improved interpersonal relationships, boosted immune system function, and better sleep patterns.
How do you go about
practicing gratitude? Start with these steps:

1. Start with your breath. Breathing techniques help you focus on
relaxation. Just focusing on your breath can help you stay in the now.
2. Activate your senses. Being aware of how your body responds to the world around you keeps you grounded. If you struggle to feel any of the senses, give yourself a way to respond to it.
3. Make a mental note. Think about three things you’re grateful for at any point in the day, big or small. This can be on your morning commute, in the elevator, or just before you go to sleep. Let them sit with you for the rest of the day.

Developing a practice of
gratitude takes a little bit of work, but once you incorporate it into your daily routine, you’ll see that the benefits of gratitude outshine an outlook of woe. If you need extra help building your routine, try talking to a certified counselor or therapist to get started.
