Having a healthy heart is about balancing good nutrition and moving your body daily.
Making small changes to your lifestyle can significantly improve your heart health.

Go easy on the salt

The American Heart Association says that your sodium intake should be around 2300 mg per day, with the ideal intake of 1500 mg. Most Americans consume up to 3400 mg of sodium per day which can lead to an unhealthy heart.
Cooking your own meals is a great to start to monitor how much salt you are eating. Takeout and condiments are high in sodium, so preparing your own meals can help you choose how much salt to put into a dish.

Eat healthy fats

Not all fats are created equal. Your body needs some fats for fuel to supply the energy needed to keep your body moving all day. You should know the difference between fats to consume and fats to avoid:

Healthy fats come from nuts, avocados, and plant based oils. These types of fats are great for healthy looking skin and hair, and also aid in digestion.
Unhealthy fats come from processed meats, full fat dairy products, and red meat. Red meat does provide your body with iron and protein but it also heightens your cholesterol level which can later lead to a heart attack.
Trans fats come from hydrogenated oils that are often found in processed foods, packaged baked goods, butter, margarine, fried, foods, and junk food. Swap out these unhealthy foods for fresh, whole foods
like nuts, veggies, or fruits.

Monitor your sugar intake

Sugar that comes from white bread or soda is very bad for your body. Reaching for natural sugar options like veggies, fruits, or whole grains will satisfy your sweet tooth.

Get Moving

Staying active is one of the best ways to prevent heart disease. Cardiovascular exercises like running, cycling, or aerobics are beneficial to your hearts health.
Squeezing in a quick workout 5 days a week will keep your heart healthy and happy.

Not only is heart health important for your well being, it is also important for getting affordable quotes on health insurance and life insurance.
