All fifty states have lifted the ban for sports betting on Monday.  The U.S. Supreme Court created the federal ban that has lasted more than a quarter of a century.

"I am thrilled to see the Supreme Court finally side with New Jersey and strike down the arbitrary ban on sports betting imposed by Congress decades ago," Governor Murphy said. "I look forward to working with the legislature to enact a law authorizing and regulating sports betting in the very near future."

"This will attract a younger generation of folks to go to Atlantic City and stay there," said former state Sen. Raymond Lesniak, D-Union, who led the fight in Trenton to legalize supports betting.

Geoff Freeman, president and chief executive of the American Gaming Association believes that this will be beneficial to the economy of New Jersey and Atlantic city.  He said that the betting market will protect consumers and hopefully motivate law enforcement to fight illegal gambling.

The new sports gambling law requires the safety and integrity of sports and the gamblers.
