The federal funds for the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) expired at the end of September, and a solution has not been made yet.  As state funding for the program becomes increasingly closer to completely dissolving, Congress has reauthorized a temporary spending bill to avert a shutdown.   CHIP, The Children’s Health Insurance Program, is a health insurance plan that helps working families who do not have health insurance for their children.  The program was designed to cover uninsured children in families with incomes that are modest but too high to qualify for Medicaid.    CHIP serves around 9 million children whose parents earn too much to qualify for Medicaid, but who can’t afford insurance for their children on the open market.  CHIP has still not been funded by Congress.  There has been no sign of funding plans in the immediate future. READ MORE >>

 Jimmy Kimmel brought out his son last night on his show to speak out about the children’s healthcare funding crisis.  CHIP is the children’s health insurance program.   It covers about 9 million kids whose parents make too much money to qualify for Medicaid, but don’t have access to affordable coverage through their jobs. Not too much time has passed since the government stopped funding the Children's Health Insurance Program and left 112,000 children in New Jersey without coverage.  An overall 9 million children in the United States lost funding at the end of September. READ MORE >>
